STEM coaster challenge
Steps
1- Computer Simulations:Use the link for building a roller coaster from my website. Your teams design should have a beginning hill and one loop. The task is to have a successful simulated design. That's phase one. 2- Building Phase/Phase two: Once you have made a simulated and successful run twice, use the foam strip(s) and a marble to duplicate your computer design to test its effectiveness. Make notes of modifications you make to the foam coaster design and continue modifications until you have two consecutive successful runs. A successful run is one in which the marble comes to a stop on its own thanks to design, gravity and friction (NO HELP FROM YOU). 3- Publishing Phase: Type up your results on a gmail to be sent to the teacher as follows: Problem: Hypothesis: (this is a picture of your successful computer designed track) Data: talk about the implementation of your hypothetical design with the foam pipe. Talk about modifications you made and include a drawing of the final successful design. Conclusion: 1-Analyze your data in light of your hypothesis. Talk about what design features worked and which ones didn't and why. 2- Describe what you think would be involved in creating a full-feature roller coaster from start to finish. |
